Course Description

  1. Candidates for admission to GNM should have passed 10+2/equivalent examination with English and must have obtained a minimum of 40 % marks from any recognized board. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category with pass mark are eligible for application. Science group with Physics, Chemistry, Biology is preferable. In the absence of candidates with science group, candidates with other groups also will be considered.
  2. Candidates from State open School recognized by State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government are also eligible for admission.
  3. Registered ANM also can apply.
  4. Candidates who have passed 10+2 Health Care Science – Vocational stream from a recognized CBSE board/State/Centre are also eligible for admission

General objectives of the course

  1. The candidate on completion of this course will be able to:
    1. Asses the nursing need of clients from birth to death.
    2. Plan and carry out appropriate action to meet nursing needs.
    3. Provide effective nursing care to maintain best possible level of health in all aspects.
    4. Promote self-care in people under their care.
    5. Apply problem solving techniques in nursing practice.
    6. Evaluate effectiveness of nursing care.
  2. Apply knowledge from the humanities, biological and behavioral sciences in functioning as a nurse.
  3. Function effectively with members of the health team and community applying the knowledge of human relations and communication skill in her work.
  4. Participate as member of the health team in delivery of curative, preventive, promotive and rehabilitative health care services.
  5. Demonstrate use of ethical values in their personal and professional life.
  6. Demonstrate interest in activities of professional organization.
  7. Recognize the need for continuing education for professional development.
  8. Demonstrate basic skills in teaching patients and giving nursing care to them.
  9. Demonstrate basic skills in administration and leadership while working with other members of health team and community. 
  10. Participate in research activities.
